Estimation Under Mode Effects and Proxy Surveys, Accounting for Non-ignorable Nonresponse

چکیده

Abstract We propose a new, model-based methodology to address two major problems in survey sampling: The first problem is known as mode effects, under which responses of sampled units possibly depend on the response, whether by internet, telephone, personal interview, etc. second proxy surveys, whereby respond not only about themselves but also for other sampled. For example, many familiar household one member provides information all members, with measurement errors. Ignoring existence effects and/or possible errors surveys could result bias point estimators and subsequent inference. Our approach accounts nonignorable nonresponse. illustrate proposed use simulation experiments real sample data, true population values.

Is Earnings Nonresponse Ignorable?

Is Earnings Nonresponse Ignorable? Earnings nonresponse in the Current Population Survey is roughly 30% in the monthly surveys and 20% in the annual March survey. Even if nonresponse is random, severe bias attaches to wage equation coefficient estimates on attributes not matched in the earnings imputation hot deck. If nonresponse is ignorable, unbiased estimates can be achieved by omitting impu...

Tests of Certain Types of Ignorable Nonresponse in Surveys Subject to Item Nonresponse or Attrition

Analysts of cross-sectional or panel surveys often base inferences about relationships between variables on complete units, excluding units that are incomplete due to item nonresponse or attrition. This practice is justifiable if exclusion is ignorable in an appropriate sense. This paper characterizes certain types of ignorable exclusion in surveys subject to item nonresponse and develops tests...

Item nonresponse to financial questions in household surveys : An experimental study of interviewer and mode effects ∗

Abstract: We analyze nonresponse to questions on financial items such as income and asset holdings in household surveys using data from a controlled field experiment. As part of the SAVE study, a representative survey conducted in Germany in 2001, questions on household income and financial assets were administered using different modes (personal interview vs. drop-off questionnaire). The data ...

Nonresponse Rates and Nonresponse Bias In Household Surveys

Many surveys of the U.S. household population are experiencing higher refusal rates. Nonresponse can, but need not, induce nonresponse bias in survey estimates. Recent empirical findings illustrate cases when the linkage between nonresponse rates and nonresponse biases is absent. Despite this, professional standards continue to urge high response rates. Statistical expressions of nonresponse bi...
